I have one too! Definitely use Windows Media Center (WMC) but don't forget the IR remote control TSR (it lives in your systray) if you have a hand held remote control and want to use it with your Hauppauge TV card. You don't need to install the entire WinTV application from Hauppauge to get IR remote control functionality either.
Just download the IR remote application from Hauppauge (or from the install CD) and install it either before or after you've configured WMC. If you install Hauppauge's bundled WinTV and then use WMC you'll probably be wondering why you ever thought Hauppauge's app was even worth a try. Just use WMC and the remote control software. For OTA HD broadcasts, I could NOT get MCE to work on Windows 7 Professional MCE with my single tuner card, so I bought a dual tuner card, thinking it would work better with MCE. Still had several channels that had very low signal strength and would not record, even though they would sometimes come in with a live broadcase.
A valid WinTV application CD-ROM will be needed to install this WinTV v7 version. Any WinTV v6 or WinTV 7 application CD can be used during the install. If you do not have your original WinTV CD-ROM but would like to update to WinTV v7, you can purchase a new CD on the Hauppauge webstore. If you have a WinTV v7.2 CD-ROM with Extend, then the. Note: A valid WinTV application CD-ROM (WinTV v6 or WinTV v7) will be needed to install this WinTV v7 version. Any WinTV 7 application CD can be used during the install. If you do not have your original WinTV CD-ROM but would like to update to WinTV v7 or WinTV v8, you can purchase a new CD on the Hauppauge webstore for $9.95. To install the.
Even with a big roof antenna it wouldn't work. I found no help on the internet and even tried moving my TV card outside the computer with a custom PCI extension cable and wrapped in the static resistant bag and tin foil to rule out any within-computer electromagnetic interference someone mentioned. I finally got fed up and called Hauppauge support and they suggested WinTV7 - it was only $10, so I bought it. Very much worth the price. Now, even with a very small antenna, I get amazing reception (26 miles from the transmitters). I recall that even a few years ago MCE had trouble with my original single tuner card.
As I said, this was all for OTA digital TV broadcasts, MCE may work if you are using it for digital cable. So, I use WinTV7 and TitanTV for listings and to set up recordings. Plex is also awesome for streaming through Roku and to phone. It even plays back the show before it's done recording since the recording format is set up to stream.
Why I will never buy another Hauppauge product ever again I recently dug out my old PVR-350 Tuner card because I wanted to convert some old VCR tapes to my computer. The original cd came with a version of WinTV. It wasn't the greatest software but it was free and made it very simple to record VCR tapes off the tuner card. So today I install the tuner card in an XP machine and go online to look for the drivers and the WinTV software. WinTV is now up to version 6. It is available for download, but you can only install it IF YOU HAVE THE ORIGONAL INSTALL CD THAT CAME WITH THE CARD It actually checks for the cd during installation.WTF.!!!!
Of course they let you order the cd for $9.95. I remember throwing that cd away a long time ago knowing I could get the drivers online. I got the drives, but there really isn't any software built into XP for capturing video other than movie maker and it doesn't see my card.
What a bunch of bull. The next tuner I buy will not be hauppauge. I got it working. Found some old drivers from rapidshare.
Took a little forcing. At the end of the day I got my 1996 video from high school called 'The Mr Jock Show' transferred off a VHS tape and onto my computer. It will be the shown on Neowin on January 1st in the Member Videos 2010 thread I had an older disk lying around (version 2.2) and i was going to grab the latest driver for you but i didn't seem to need it? Is that the right one? There is also a v7 however i'm not sure if it will work with your card or not (based on there list) (installation download tab).
